The Ear

It is the organ for hearing. It is covered with skin. We use our ears to hear what is happening around us when we can’t see. We can use it to sense things from afar.


The Eye

This is the organ of sight. We use the eye to see what is happening around us. We use it to see when danger is at hand.











The Nose

The nose allows us to sense odors. We use our nose to tell us which smells good and which are bad. It also warns us of danger. The senses of taste and smell work closely together because the sense organs are near to each other.


The Tongue

To taste something the tongue has to be wet. The substance in the mouth dissolve or mix with the saliva. There are taste buds on the tongue that sense different tastes – sweet, sour, salt and bitter. We sense different taste on a different part of our tongue.



The Skin

The skin has many functions. It covers the entire body and also lines places such as the mouth, the nostrils and ears. The outer part of the skin is waterproof and germ-proof. It protects the body.





What is a sense organ?

A sense organ is a special kind of organ. Each organ is able to receive signals that bring information from the environment or surroundings. We say that the sense organ is sensitive to or reacts to these signals. In science, these signals are referred to s a stimuli.
